UK: First bio-LPG delivery for Jersey and Guernsey Islands
Islands Energy Group (IEG) has unveiled their first renewable Liquid Gas solution for a number of Jersey and Guernsey businesses. Bean 14, Les Bourgs Hospice, the 8th Guernsey Sea Scouts, The Jersey Airport Fire Service and Jersey Dairy, are receiving this energy solution to kickstart their green energy journey.
According to Liquid Gas UK, this trial aligns with the strategic direction set by IEG. In 2022, the company committed to accelerating the islands it serves towards a shared Net Zero future by 2050. The plan includes reducing its carbon footprint and decarbonising the gas transported through its networks.
“We’re excited to launch this trial with three local businesses, and be able to offer bio-LPG to them as a tangible step towards a more sustainable Guernsey,” said Darryl Goddard, Managing Director of Guernsey Energy and Island Energy. “This renewable gas makes it so easy for people to choose a more sustainable energy option, without having to upgrade their businesses or homes. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our environment.”
Rob Jones, CEO at Les Bourgs Hospice also commented: “We’re delighted to receive this new energy solution from Guernsey Energy. Transitioning to cleaner gas supports our commitment to sustainability, and reflects Guernsey’s pledge to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Sophie Alexander, Head of Sustainability & Community Value at Ports of Jersey added: “We are proud to be part of the trial for the new bio-LPG at our Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service training ground. We are making great progress towards our target to be net zero in our operations at the airport by 2030, and this is another step that will help us to get there.”
