The Voice of Ms Molly Morris, WLPGA Board Member and Senior Vice President of Crude, Products and Liquids, Equinor

The Voice spoke with Ms Molly Morris, WLPGA Board Member and Senior Vice President of Crude, Products and Liquids, Equinor, to hear her hopes and goals as a newly elected WLPGA Board Member.

Please could you give us an insight in to your career so far.

For over twenty years I have worked in the Refining and Oil and Gas downstream marketing and trading industries. I joined Equinor in 2008 and started in my current position as Senior Vice President of Crude, Products and Liquids on 1st September 2020.

Between 2008 and 2020, I held several trading and management positions for Equinor including VP Products and Liquids trading, Manager Global LPG trading and Manager of North America LPG and Light Ends trading. Before joining Equinor, I worked for Sunoco Inc. holding several positions within the refining and commercial sectors. I received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Villanova University in the United States, and have lived and worked in Stavanger, Norway, the headquarters for Equinor, for almost five years.

What are Equinor’s key drivers for the coming year?

One of Equinor’s key drivers is our strong focus on sustainability. The world needs energy providers that can deliver energy with lower emissions. Equinor supports the Paris Agreement and a net-zero target for society. We have already brought CO2 emissions in the oil and gas production process down to industry leading levels, and we will continue to do more. Our journey to develop as a broad energy company is founded on a strong commitment to sustainability, and our strategy – always safe, high value, and low carbon – is applied in everything we do.

Given the universally challenging year we have all gone through, where do you believe the key opportunities lie for LPG in 2021 and going forward?

I believe that LPG will continue to grow in global demand for the following two reasons: firstly, the world will continue to focus on the energy transition and meeting the ambitions set forth from the Paris Agreement and LPG can be part of the solution to a lower carbon world. Secondly, LPG is an easily-accessible, safe, transportable product available globally through an efficient value chain and can be seen as a fuel to support the energy transition and growth and prosperity for society.

And what about key threats and how we might overcome them?

Key threats include the LPG industry not being able to have a strong enough voice to governments and regulators who are key in designing the future for the energy transition.  LPG may be ignored if other fuels take more of a centre stage. We need to ensure that we have a strong, advocating voice showing the benefits of LPG in a global setting and how it can be a fuel to meet the climate targets as well as supporting economic growth globally.

You joined the WLPGA Board in November 2020. What are your hopes and goals, as our newly elected Board member, what are your ambitions for this role?

I hope that I can use my global LPG network and the strong reputation that both Equinor and the WLPGA have in sharing common goals – Equinor is committed to turning natural resources into energy for people and progress for society. We are developing as a broad energy company, leveraging strong synergies between oil, gas, renewables, carbon capture, and hydrogen. The missions for both Equinor and the WLPGA are quite similar and with that close synergy, I hope to be able to make a difference in the goals and aspirations that we have set forth as an organisation.
