State of Missouri offers USD 1 million in grants to help schools acquire Autogas buses
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced it is providing almost USD 1 million in funding assistance to school districts for the purchase of buses powered by LPG.
Through the Missouri Propane School Bus Grant, the 2024 Missouri General Assembly made USD 970,000 in funding available for the purchase of qualifying Autogas buses. With this programme, the Government will give Missouri schools the opportunity to add clean vehicles to their fleets, reduce emissions and cut operating costs.
DESE has prepared a guidance document that provides details on the allocation methodology, allowable uses of funds, programme structure, timeline/period of available use, finance coding, documentation requirements for expenditures, and DESE contact information.
Qualified buses must be a 2024 model year or newer and powered by LPG. School districts and education agencies may apply for a maximum reimbursement of USD 24,250 per bus for up to four buses, as funding allows. The grant application is due by December 15, 2024.
There are more than 22,000 Autogas school buses across the United States, including over 300 in Missouri. Grain Valley School District, Fort Zumwalt School District, Hannibal Public Schools, Neosho School District and Liberty Public Schools have LPG school buses in the fleets.
