Spain: Autogas conversions increase nearly 30% in 2024
Vehicle conversions to LPG increased by 29,6% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to the Spanish Association of Vehicle Converters (ASTRAVE). During last year, 5,200 transformations were carried out in the country, continuing the upward trend of recent years, while in 2023, the figure reached more than 4,000 units.
For ASTRAVE, in addition to fuel costs, an important factor that has influenced this growth in 2024 has been the uncertainty surrounding Low Emission Zone restrictions, especially in cities where new limitations were announced starting in 2025.
The achievement of the Spanish DGT’s ECO label has been another major catalyst for the growth in conversions. The association explained that gasoline cars that meet the EURO 4 standard (registered since 2006) and diesel cars that meet the EURO 6 standard (registered since 2016) can obtain the ECO label by converting to Autogas.
According to ASTRAVE data, the most converted model to LPG last year was the Toyota Corolla, which once again takes first place, followed by other models from the Japanese brand, such as the Prius, Prius Plus, and Rav4.
Similarly, an increase in transformations has been noted in Renault vehicles, such as the Megane, Traffic, and Master, as well as in the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Ford Transit.
