More than 650,000 vehicles run on LPG in Peru

In a context of constantly fluctuating fuel prices, Autogas has positioned itself as an attractive alternative for Peruvian drivers seeking to optimise costs and reduce polluting emissions.

According to a recent APOYO study, commissioned by Solgas, more than 650,000 private and public transportation vehicles in the country have been converted to run on Autogas as their primary fuel source.

This sustained growth has led the automotive sector to represent 35% of Peru’s total LPG demand, consolidating its presence in the energy market. Lima, the city with the largest vehicle fleet in the country, is leading this trend due to the high cost of gasoline and diesel.

For Alessandra Dentone, Commercial Director of Solgas, the adoption of Autogas is a response to multiple benefits recognised by Peruvian drivers. "In recent years, we have seen significant growth in the use of LPG, which demonstrates that Peruvians value its advantages in terms of savings, accessibility, and sustainability," she noted.

The study highlighted four main factors that are encouraging vehicle conversions:

  • Fuel savings: Its price is up to 50% lower than gasoline, allowing for a significant reduction in drivers' monthly expenses.
  • Lower environmental impact: Compared to gasoline, LPG generates fewer polluting gas emissions, which contributes to improving air quality and reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Greater autonomy and availability: Converted vehicles can operate on both gasoline and LPG, allowing for greater flexibility in fuel consumption. Furthermore, the growth of fuel supply infrastructure has facilitated access in Lima and other cities.
  • Rapid return on investment: The conversion cost is amortised in just a few months thanks to fuel savings. Financing programs are also available to facilitate access to this alternative.
