Meet our new female Youth Council Co-Chair: Brooke Siebert, Ferrellgas
The Voice is delighted to speak with Brooke from Ferrellgas, as a newly appointed female Co-Chair to the WLGA Youth Council.
The Voice: Brooke, congratulations on being voted incoming female Co-Chair to the WLGA Youth Council. How long have you been with the Youth Council, what do you think you can bring as Co-Chair?
Brooke Siebert: I joined the Youth Council in the summer of 2023, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute more as a Co-Chair. I am eager to bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table and find new ways to leverage our unique perspectives as young workers to make an impact in the industry. I also have strong organisational skills and pay attention to detail, which will be crucial in keeping our projects on track and ensuring that we remain focused and productive. I am confident I can help guide the council to achieve its goals while bringing awareness and change for young professionals in the industry.
TV: Tell us a little about your career so far, how long have you been with Ferrellgas and what brough you to the propane industry?
BS: I’ve been with Ferrellgas since 2021, and what initially drew me in was the Management Development Program they offered. Through this programme, I had the opportunity to experience and shadow various managerial roles, which helped me gain valuable experience and insight into the business. It was incredibly beneficial and something I believe every company should offer. During my time in the programme, I relocated to Michigan to gain hands-on field experience and train with some of the company’s top leaders. After completing the programme, I began my role as a Customer Service Manager for the Digital team, where we introduced new technology and processes to enhance the customer experience in the digital space. Over the past year, I transitioned to the logistics team as a Logistics Supervisor to expand my field experience and learn more about another aspect of the propane business. Now, I’m excited to be transitioning into a new role as an Operations Analyst, and I’m looking forward to the opportunities it brings.
TV: Do you have a career highlight to date?
BS: My company has a programme to recognise individuals with providing flame awards in four different categories: Customer Service, Innovation, Guiding Flame, and Safety. I've been honored to receive all four awards, alongside some of the most hardworking employees within our company, including drivers, customer service specialists, and managers.
TV: You were part of the Ferrellgas delegation to LPG Week in Cape Town last November, was this your first LPG Week and how was your experience? You were also part of the team on the exceptional Ferrellgas Day of Giving in Cape Town that week, tell us a little about this experience?
BS: This past LPG Week was my first time attending, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, however, my experience far exceeded all expectations. I truly enjoyed connecting with other professionals in the industry and learning about the latest technological advancements, the challenges faced by other countries in the sector, and hearing insights from diverse groups throughout the week. Of course, one of the highlights was meeting my fellow Youth Council members in person, which made the experience even more memorable.
Ferrellgas also hosted the Day of Giving in Cape Town, where we made a financial contribution to the schools so they could get gas stoves and the property safety certificates. During our visit, we had the incredible opportunity to tour some of the schools and hear firsthand how propane has positively impacted their lives. The most meaningful part of the day was interacting with the students and getting a glimpse into their daily experiences. The students were all so kind, gracious, and deeply appreciative of our efforts. It was a humbling and unforgettable experience.
TV: As an ambitious young women in the propane industry, do you see any specific challenges for women in our industry and what advice do you have for other young women climbing this career ladder?
BS: Our industry has traditionally been male dominated, but thankfully, that's changing. More women are joining and stepping into leadership roles which is challenging the status quo. While this can still present obstacles, my best advice is to embrace every opportunity that comes your way and demonstrate that you truly belong in the industry.
TV: Many thanks indeed for your time and congratulations again on this appointment.
