iRCONGAS Reaches 9,000 Vehicle Conversions to Autogas LPG

iRCONGAS, a leading company specialising in vehicle conversions to Autogas LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), has surpassed 9,000 converted vehicles, reaching 9,044 conversions over the last six years. This milestone represents an average of nearly 1,500 conversions per year and has helped prevent the emission of approximately 18.2 million tonnes of CO₂, reinforcing Autogas LPG as a genuine, economical and sustainable mobility alternative.

With these figures, iRCONGAS has consolidated its position as a market leader in Spain, accounting for almost 29% of all LPG vehicle conversions nationwide. The company attributes this success to growing driver awareness of fuel savings, environmental benefits and unrestricted urban mobility.

Strong Growth in Demand for LPG Conversions

The adoption of Autogas LPG has accelerated significantly in recent years. In 2024 alone, more than 5,200 vehicles were converted, representing a 30% increase compared with the previous year. This growth reflects a clear trend among drivers seeking more affordable and environmentally responsible transport solutions without sacrificing vehicle performance or convenience.

Autogas LPG allows vehicles to operate in dual-fuel mode, using both conventional fuel and LPG, increasing driving range and reducing operating costs. The system is compatible with a wide range of petrol vehicles and can be installed without affecting engine reliability.

Economic and Environmental Advantages

One of the main reasons drivers choose LPG is the significant cost saving. LPG can be up to €0.50 cheaper per litre than petrol or diesel, enabling fuel savings of up to 40%. Depending on usage, the investment in a conversion—starting from approximately €1,700—can often be recovered in a relatively short period.

From an environmental perspective, LPG vehicles emit substantially fewer pollutants, including nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, contributing to improved air quality in urban areas. This makes LPG an effective transitional solution towards cleaner mobility.

ECO Label and Unrestricted Urban Access

Vehicles converted to LPG are eligible for the ECO environmental label issued by Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). This label allows drivers to circulate freely in Low Emission Zones (LEZs), which are becoming increasingly common in Spanish cities.

In addition, ECO-labelled vehicles benefit from parking discounts in controlled parking zones, reduced tolls in some regions, and exemptions or reductions in certain municipal taxes, further enhancing the economic appeal of LPG conversions.

Expanding Beyond Passenger Cars

While private passenger vehicles continue to represent a significant share of conversions, iRCONGAS has seen growing demand from other segments. These include motorhomes, camper vans, and professional fleets, such as taxis, ride-hailing vehicles and last-mile delivery fleets, all of which prioritise operating cost reductions and sustainability.

For professional users, LPG provides a practical solution that balances environmental compliance with profitability, particularly in urban environments subject to increasingly strict regulations.

A Nationwide Network and Technical Expertise

iRCONGAS emphasises that its success is supported by a nationwide network of specialised workshops and a high level of technical expertise. The company works with certified components and trained technicians to ensure safety, performance and compliance with regulatory standards.

According to iRCONGAS, Autogas LPG is not only a cost-effective alternative but also a realistic and immediately available solution for drivers wishing to reduce emissions and adapt to new mobility regulations without replacing their vehicles.
