Herko delivers its first LPG trucks in Spain, plans to build 250 units in 2025
Herko Trucks announced it has assembled and distributed the first vehicles powered by renewable Liquefied Gas produced. These units were delivered to clients such as Urbaser and Cespa and, according to Basque Country-based firm, are aimed at decarbonising primarily urban transport.
The company explained that, after obtaining the necessary permits for manufacturing, the industrialisation phase of their facilities is now underway. "Our trucks have generated significant interest from urban service companies that require eco-friendly light trucks to operate in cities, such as cleaning or logistics companies," stated the company led by Pedro Silva, also founder of BeGas.
The Herko Bios 35 model powered by renewable Autogas currently has approval for short production runs, meaning that this year's volume will be limited to 250 trucks.
From there, the goal is, once European approval is achieved, to gradually increase the number of units assembled at the Biscayan plant, which has the capacity to reach 3,000 vehicles per shift and the ability to accommodate up to three work shifts. This figure could far exceed this threshold once the facilities are fully operational and if the market continues to respond well.
So far, the response from companies that provide this type of urban services has been positive, said Herko representatives, in line with the demand from city councils and local authorities to reduce transport emissions.
At the social level, Herko’s plant will generate 150 direct jobs in addition to approximately 200 indirect jobs.
