Dutch Congress votes to keep Autogas discounts
While the previous Government had included in the Tax Plan 2024 that the LPG-G3/R115 discount on road tax would be abolished as of 1 January 2026, the decision has been reversed by the current Government in the Tax Plan 2025, as both the Senate and the House of Representatives vote to keep the benefit.
This means that Autogas vehicle drivers can continue to access the discount if an LPG-G3 or an LPG-R115 system is installed in the vehicle.
The G3/R115 scheme was created precisely for better (government) control of the quality of the installation (and safety) of the fuel system and thus the emissions, compared to the older G2 scheme.
Prins informed that, last year, industry players had presented a petition with a letter to members of the House of Representatives. The day after receiving this request, Henk Vermeer held a debate in the chamber to highlight the social consequences of the abolition of this discount.
He then raised the subject several more times and submitted an amendment. This revision was adopted by the House of Representatives in November and approved by the Senate in December, together with the 2025 Tax Plan.
“We are very pleased and grateful that we have been heard by Mr. Vermeer and by the Government parties and various opposition parties. We are also very happy with the adopted decision. We thanked the support from the LPG industry, the RAI and various Autogas drivers who showed how important driving on LPG is to them,” said Prins’ statement.
