Autogas vehicles in Peru almost double NGVs

As Peru continues to navigate its energy landscape, Autogas conversions are gaining traction as a viable alternative to conventional fuels. In a country where access to cleaner energy sources is becoming increasingly vital for environmental and economic sustainability, LPG provides a compelling solution for transportation.

Currently, there are more than 650,000 vehicles converted to Autogas in Peru, while 344,085 run on compressed natural gas, according to AmericaGLP. This figure makes LPG in the country one of the continent's main markets, almost doubling the units converted to CNG.

For fleet operators, Autogas offers greater autonomy, as well as a more friendly relationship with the vehicle's engine. Furthermore, supply has grown significantly in recent years, both in the city of Lima and in the rest of the country.

In addition, sales in the vehicle segment already represent 35% of all LPG consumed in Peru.

On the other hand, the conversion to natural gas, LPG's main competitor, is set to decline this year. According to official records from the Ministry of Energy, in the first quarter of 2025, CNG conversions fell by 13,3% compared to the same period the previous year, with only 10,255 vehicles converted.

It is worth mentioning that public transport vehicles, particularly buses and taxis, are increasingly being converted to run on Autogas. As cities grapple with traffic congestion and pollution, converting fleets to this fuel represents a strategic solution for enhancing air quality while simultaneously addressing rising fuel costs for operators.
