Dimethyl Ether (DME) – LPG Substitute, Energy Security & Renewable Future
World Liquid Gas Association at India Energy Week
WLGA is conducting a key session entitled: Dimethyl Ether (DME) - LPG Substitute, Energy Security & Renewable Future
When?
12th February 2025,
4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Where?
Side Events Room,
Indian Energy Week (IEW)
Yashobhoomi, Dwarka
New Delhi, India
Session Overview:
The objective of the session is to share progress on DME and rDME developments across the world and initiate a dialogue with relevant local stakeholders in India to define a roadmap for an energy independent, lower carbon and sustainable LPG sector.
WLGA has conducted a body of work to test blends of rDME with LPG to be able to transport and distribute DME using LPG infrastructure. DME, if produced locally, presents an opportunity to reduce India’s LPG import dependency. In addition, India offers opportunities to use indigenous feedstocks and raw materials to make renewable and low carbon DME which can enable a transition to an energy secure and lower carbon LPG sector in India. The strategic session would share some developments along these lines to open dialogue with a broad set of stakeholders who are critical for the DME journey in India.
Session will cover presentations on important topics such as ‘’DME/LPG blends & Safety developments’’, ‘’DME production pathways’’, ‘’Feasibility of renewable DME (rDME)’’ and relevant DME technology etc. It will be well represented by stakeholders such as WLGA, PSUs, Technology providers, private companies and start-ups.
Following the presentations, panel discussion with senior key stakeholders will take place in two sessions, to reflect on developments, share views on strategic direction. and initiate a dialogue with relevant local stakeholders in India to define a roadmap for an energy independent, lower carbon and sustainable LPG sector.
Programme
The session will be moderated by Dr Keith Simons, Chair of the Global Science Council of the WLGA, and cover presentations from various stakeholders such as WLGA, PSUs, Technology providers, private companies, and start-ups as below:
- rDME/LPG blends and Safety Developments, Nikos Xydas, WLGA
