Oil Marketers join forces to drive up Autogas adoption
In Kenya, two energy companies have joined forces to accelerate the rollout of Autogas refuelling infrastructure, highlighting the critical role that fuel availability plays in driving adoption. Ola Energy and Proto Energy plan to introduce Autogas dispensing points across Ola Energy's retail network, with an initial rollout covering 15 stations nationwide.
The opportunity is significant:
- Kenya's Autogas network has grown from 18 licensed stations in mid-2025 to around 35 stations today.
- The country has an estimated 15,000–20,000 LPG-powered vehicles.
- Globally, more than 27 million vehicles operate on Autogas, supported by over 70,000 refuelling stations.
Economics are also helping to drive uptake. In Nairobi, Autogas sells for around KES 90 per litre, compared with KES 184 for petrol and KES 171 for diesel.
The partnership demonstrates how collaboration between fuel suppliers and fuel retailers can rapidly expand infrastructure, improve accessibility and support the wider adoption of Autogas.
