WLPGA preparations for COP28

WLPGA is preparing to represent the interests of the Liquid Gas, including LPG, industry during the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP28 climate change negotiations, that will take place from 30th November to 12th December in Dubai, UAE. WLPGA has produced a statement on the role of Liquid Gas as an immediate contribution to the global challenge of climate change. In addition, WLPGA will hold a side-event on clean cooking in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Pavilion in Thematic Arena 3 of the Blue Zone, on Wednesday 6th December at 4pm local time.

“COP28 is an important opportunity to reflect on the global energy transition, which is chaotic, incongruous and varied. Each society is on its own transition timeline and has unique challenges that demand solutions. For many communities, particularly in the Global South, the energy transition means a shift to more reliable, secure and accessible forms of energy in the race to net zero.

Today, more than 700 million people around the world lack basic access to clean, safe, and reliable energy needed for everyday tasks. And 2.3 billion people – or one-third of global populations – lack clean cooking facilities and must rely on wood, coal, animal dung, and other dirty and dangerous ‘traditional fuels’  to feed their families. Clean, reliable, and accessible energy – like liquid gas – can transform the lives of many in these communities by improving health, reducing emissions and particulate matter, and increasing access to opportunities.

As global stakeholders descend on Dubai, we cannot lose sight of the tremendous privilege many of us enjoy today in having clean and accessible energy. As we consider how to tackle climate change, we must also think about how to address sustainable development and deploy solutions at every stage of the global energy transition.”  James Rockall, CEO and Managing Director, World LPG Association
