India’s first Autogas conversion kit for two-wheelers approved

KR Fuels announced that it has received approval to install LPG conversion kits in BS4 two-wheelers, becoming the first company in India to secure such certification. According to the Tamil Nadu-based company, they are “ready to deploy these kits across the country.”

The LPG kits, which include a 5-litre tank, ECU (Electronic Control Unit) for scooters, wiring harnesses, and injectors, are produced at KR Fuels' facility in Trichy using robotic arms from Germany. The company has ensured that all statutory authorisations and certifications are in place for the rollout.

"The approval for two-wheeler LPG conversion validates our commitment. Our kits, manufactured with advanced technology and precision, provide an economical and environmentally friendly solution for the Indian market. We are also seeking approval for BS6 vehicles, which will further expand our offerings. This approval enables us to present a greener alternative for two-wheeler owners in India. Our LPG conversion kits are not only cost-effective but also play a crucial role in reducing vehicular emissions," stated Karthigeyan, CEO, KR Fuels.

KR Fuels has already started production with an initial batch of 8,000 tanks ready for distribution. The company also operates 73 LPG stations and seven conversion centres across Tamil Nadu.

"We are thrilled to witness KR Fuels receiving approval for two-wheelers Auto LPG retrofitment on BS4 vehicles," said Suyash Gupta, Director General, Indian Auto LPG Coalition. "This significant milestone not only underscores the potential of LPG as a cleaner, greener alternative to conventional fuels but also represents a crucial step towards reducing vehicular emissions across India. With over 25 million two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu alone, the impact on air quality could be substantial."

He further urged the government to reduce the GST on these kits from 28% to 5% to make them more accessible to drivers.
